Simple Snowboard Sizing Explained
When deciding on which size snowboard to get, you will first need to consider your height and weight. Snowboard lengths are measured in centimeters (not inches) from tip to tail. You can get a general idea of the length you will need for snowboard sizing, by standing a board up vertically, and comparing the height to your chin.
If the board length is in between your chin and nose, then typically, that board is within your size range. This approach worked for many years when most snowboards had the same profile and shape. Nowadays, your body weight plays a bigger factor, because of all the different shape variations and base profile options snowboards have.
Also, your boot size will determine if you need a wider board, or not. Snowboards come in different widths, and if you have a large foot, you will need a wider board. A person with a size 11 or bigger, typically needs a wide board. Snowboard widths are measured at the narrowest point, in between the bindings.
Most brands will measure this in millimeters. If a board measures more than 255mm at its waist, then it’s considered a wide board. You also need to factor in what type of riding you enjoy, because that plays a huge role in choosing the right snowboard. If you enjoy carving, freeriding, or powder, you’re generally going to want a larger board. If you’re a beginner, or into freestyle and park, you might want to consider getting a board on the shorter side.
The following image is a basic snowboard sizing chart you can use to help find the size that fits you best. Happy riding!

Shawna says
Hello,
I’m looking at purchasing snowboard and boots for my son. He is 6ft, weighs 120-130…tall skinny guy, and wears 91/2 shoe size. The size chart doesn’t have this height weight ratio. Can you tell me what size board/boot combo would work for him.
Thank you
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Shawna. 120 – 130 for 6ft is light for that tall so look for something around the 156cm length. Depending on his strength and what he likes to ride he might be looking for something a little softer to deal with that length. If possible demo days at your local resort or go check out your local board store and there might be a couple options to test. Best of luck with your selection and happy shreading!
Johnathan says
Hey I’m 5”11 and 130 pounds what board would be good for me I like park but I’m just kinda new
Riley Bathurst says
Hi Jonathan
At 5’11” 130 we would suggest starting with a board around 155cm if you are able to demo or rent a few options and decide what you like, being new taking lessons might also help and many instructors can help with board selection seeing your riding style and ability.
Thanks
Tim says
To whom it may concern,
My cousin is 5’5 and 140. Would a 152 cm snowboard affect his maneuvering or movement significantly? What sizes would you recommend?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Tim
I’m not sure what you mean by would 152 affect his maneuvering, every board will ride different and size is a significant factor in that. For 5’5″ 140 a board around 152cm is a great place to start but try and demo or rent before purchasing to know if you like that board
Thanks
Shawna Wilson says
Hello,
I’m trying to purchase a snowboard for my son. He is 6ft, weighs 120-130, and shoe size is 91/2. The size chart does not have his height/weight ratio. What size board/boot would work for him?
Thank you
Craig says
Hey Riley,
Second season snowboarding for me.
I purchased a used board last year to get started.
It’s an old Burton Cruzer 55 and 152cm
My height is 5′ 10″ but my weight is always around 195lbs to 200lbs.
I’m trying to figure out if it’s too small due to weight.
Would you recommend a longer board?
Thanks
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Craig.
For around 190 – 200 pounds yes we would recommend trying out a longer board head down to your local mountain or store and look for demos or a rental is a good place to start, try around a 157cm
Pam says
Hi am looking to buy my 12 year old son his 1st board. He’s 5 feet 96lbs and size 6feet. Advice please 😁
Riley Bathurst says
Hi Pam
He’s right around the top of our chart 139 – 145cm board should be good for him, try starting at your local shop or demo center and try out a couple boards to see what feels comfortable
Jim says
My daughter is 5’2 and 95 lbs looking for a board right for her size
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Jim
Start looking around the 140cm length but get down to a local store or mountain to rent and demo a few options and find out what feels best for her.
Thanks
Greg mahon says
I need the proper size board for me 6ft 1inch 215 lb
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Greg try and find a demo or rental around the 162 – 165cm and see what feels comfortable
Bryce says
I am around the same weight/height but spent my first couple seasons riding NUGs, so I’m used to a shorter board. East Coast rider doing a lot of trees (athletic/surfer) so I have always thought shorter is better due to tight trees and being able to go edge to edge quicker. Do a couple trips out west and want another board to add to the quiver. Thinking a Skeleton Key, 158 or 162.
Any Thoughts?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Bryce we just commented on your other post. Try and demo or rent both lengths for a day seems like your close to a decision and it will help more than anything else we can say.
Thanks
Jennifer Fry says
My husband is 6’10 and 360lb what size board do I get him
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Jennifer that’s bigger than most snowboards you will find around and you will be looking in the 170cm and up sizes
Janel Garcia says
Hi, I’m looking to getting a board I’m 5’5.5″ weigh about 140 lbs. What size board would I need to get? Also, wear a size 7.5 shoe. What shoe size would you recommend?
Riley Bathurst says
Hi Janel you are good for our size charts with a 146 – 155 board and snowboard boot and shoe sizes should match up so 7.5 is a good spot to start if you can find a local demo shop or rental to test what you like.
Joshua T says
Hello, it’s been a long time since I’ve snowboard and I’m looking for the right size. I’m 5 ft 6 inch 120 lbs. What do you think fits me? Thank you!
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Joshua
You should be good with the small end of the 5’6” we are recommending so try and find a 147cm or close to demo or try at you local shop or hill.
Thanks
Owen says
Hi,
I am 5’10”, about 190-200lbs. I am looking for a very soft snowboard for buttering. any brand/length suggestions?
Thank You
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Owen for sort and buttery look at going maybe a bit smaller than the size suggests but I would say approx 157cm and try get instore to flex a couple in hand or demo at a local hill to see what feels good for you.
Thanks
Anonymous says
Hi I am trying to buy my daughter a snowboard and she’s 12 years old 5 foot 5 inches and has a size 9.5 shoe and weighs 100lbs what size should I get her???
Riley Bathurst says
Hey something around the low to mid 140cms should be good but flex will be important for her being fall for her weight compared to many people riding snowboards so a demo or rental can be a great place to start at you local shop or mountain. Thanks
Brenton Christopher Iverson says
What up Riley.. I’m 5’11 and 165lbs with a size 10.5-11 ft shoes. I just got a NVR SMR 156 cm, twin, rocker and camber board. I’d say that I’m advance with downhill/ moguls and intermediate in the park.. do you think that would be a good size for me?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Brenton
Yeah it fits to our chart so the real test is does it ride the way you want?
Do you feel like you are falling more than other boards, have you tried riding or shorter or longer
Thanks
Sam says
Hey I’m a beginner/intermediate snowboarder. I’m looking to buy my first board. I’m 6’0” tall and 205 pounds. I found a board I like but it’s a 156. Is that too small or would that be big enough? I want to be able to turn good so I heard a little shorter board might be better? Thanks for the help!
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Sam
6′ 205 you would want to be in higher end of the recommended 156 – 163cm, so I would say try and step up from the 156cm. Turning well has a lot of parts to it and yes board length is one of them but going shorter doesn’t make that easier and a lesson might be a great addition to a new board, many instructors will also be able to help you out with looking at your riding and helping pick a new board as good chair lift chat during your time.
Donald says
Hi, i am 5 8 and about 132lb. I have a Rossign district 160 (a friend of mine gave it to me). Is this okay with me? I measured the board. The length is 160 cm and 24cm wide? My foot size is 9.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Donald
160cm is on the big side for you especially with weight but if it feels good that is the main thing so try it out and if you can try and ride something a little smaller to see if that feels better for you.
Shila says
Hi! My bf is 6’4 and 245lbs and a size 14 foot, what size board to you guys recommend? 167cm?
Thanks!! Happy Holidays!
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Shila
Yeah 167cms sounds like a good size. If possible try to demo at it first and make sure it feels like the right board.
Thanks
DaCoTaH Morgan says
Hi, I am 6’1 and 136lbs with size 13 snowboard boots. I currently have a 162cm GNU Wide board. Is that suitable for me?
Thanks!
Dacotah
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Dacotah
Honestly if the board feels good then yeah its suitable, being lighter than typical for your height makes these rough guides hard so if you can try to demo or rent a few options and see if something else imrpoves your riding.
Thanks
Miguel M says
I need feedback! Please help! I am a 6’3 rider and weigh 250 my friend ( who is also a starter) is selling me a burton board for super cheap (the board is to big for him) it’s 165cm would this work?!?!?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Miguel
165cm is probably about the right size for you ask your friend if you can test it out for a day to see if it feels good before commiting to it.
Lora says
Hi there, just took the boy for his first go at snowboarding. He loves it and i want to get him gear. He is 6′ 200lbs with a size 12 foot. What size board length/width would you recommend? TIA
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Lora
6’ 200 is great for a 160 – 162cm board those are pretty similar measurements to myself and I rode 162cm everyday
Chris says
Hi,
Great insight.
I am similar measurements; 6 2”, 200lbs – intermediate and size 12 boot.
Playful rider.
Would you recommend a wide board? Thinking of a lib tech Terrain Wrecker 161W, but unsure of how it will handle as never had a wife board but always had toes overhanging…
Any help appreciated!
Chris says
*WIDE board.. wide board..
The wife skis.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Chris
we don’t comment on specific boards but a size 12 is on the limit of a regular width board so get down to your local shop or mountain and test out a wide to see if you have less problems with toe and heel drag.
Thanks
Marc says
Hi, I’m 5’8” about 175 lbs. looking at an all mountain 154cm rocker profile. I rented a 150 and it felt too short. Any advice?
Thanks
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Chris
Yeah we recommend something longer than the 150 so try and rent the 154 but also look up towards the 158cm length
Thanks
Selena says
Hello I am 5’1 and weigh 110lbs and I wear a size 7 in shoes. I am also a beginner and is looking for a great board to get started on. Any recommendations?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Selena
Look for something around the 140cm mark for 5’1 and 110 lbs as for the exact board head over to your local store or demo center and try a few to test what feels good for you.
Kirk says
I’m 6’2 160. What board size should I get? I’m a beginner.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Kirk
At 6’2 160 start looking around the 160cm size and try to demo or rent something to see if you like it first.
Thanks
CORD says
Hi there I’m a woman that is 6 feet tall and 165 pounds. I am a beginner and was wondering what size board would be good for me.
Riley Bathurst says
Hi Courtney
Male or female shouldn’t matter in the length of a board but some female boards do ride differently so try and demo or rent before purchasing but for your size start around 158cm.
Thanks
Nellie says
Hello, Im looking for a snowboard. Im 5’2 and 158 lbs. Any recommendation
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Nellie 5’2 158 you would want to start looking around 150cm maybe a little longer 152cm but try and rent or demo from your local shop or hill first to find a board you really enjoy. Thanks
Mike L. says
Hello
I’m 5’8″ 155lb Please help recommend.
Thanks
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Mike at 5’8 and 155 you are perfectly good for our recommendation of 151 – 158cm board length, try and start with something in the middle of that if you can get out for a demo or a rental and see what you enjoy.
Thanks
Trevor says
Hey guys
I bought a 161 never summer SL-R 2011 for my first board. Will be all mountin in Scotland. I am 5’9 178lbs size uk 8 boot will it be ok for me
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Trevor
161 is slightly above what we recommend in the sizing guide but it’s only a guide and it’s only slightly above and all snowboards measure different. A 2010 board may have gotten softer over the years depending on if and how it was ridden which will alter how it rides more than a little bit of length. Our advice is to try and ride the board if you already own it and then if possible demo or rent something a few cm shorter, talk to the crew in your local shop and other friends on the hill, maybe this will be perfect in powder, maybe you will find something else you like on the groomers.
Thanks
Brandon says
Hey I am 160lbs and 5’5″ with a size 8 boot, I am currently looking at the burton custom flying V and trying to decide between the 150cm and 154cm. Want to do all mountain and have plenty of fun in the powder when it rolls around, but also be able to learn butters and have some freestyle fun. Any recommendations?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Brandon
We would recommend the 154cm but if at all possible get out there and demo both from your local store or mountain you might find the 150cm works better for you, we just think the 154cm will be more stable and fun for your weight especially when the powder does roll around.
Thanks
Dom says
Hi guys I’m 5’9 weigh around 14:45 stone could I ride a 156?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Dom
For someone your weight we recommend something longer, try and demo or rent around a 159cm and see if that feels good for your riding style, we think it will be more stable.
Thanks
Arash says
Not sure what size board to ride. I’m 5’8” 200 lbs, size 9 shoe. My weight to height ratio doesn’t really fit on the chart. Any suggestions?
Riley Bathurst says
Hi Arash
We would suggest try out a board around 160cm being 5’8” 200 but all boards rode different so if possible demo or rent a couple options at different sizes and find what you like.
Thanks
Darion says
Hi, I’m 5’5 120lb and I want this snowboard I’m looking at but the smallest it comes in is 152 cm do you think that would be to big for me to handle?
Riley Bathurst says
Hi Darion
Our question would be be is why do you want this board? You might be able to handle 152cm but if it all possible try and demo or rent the board to see if you are happy with it and how it feels for you.
Thanks
jon says
hi im about 6’1
I way 138 pounds
and im shoe size is a 11
what size board should I be getting?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Jon
At 6’1 138 we would suggest you start your search around 156 – 157cm with a size 11 you may find a wide board feels better underfoot so try and demo or rent a couple options from your local shop or hill.
Good luck with your search. Thanks
Hunter pinder says
Hey guys I’m trying to get into snowboarding. I’m 6 ft 3 I weigh 195 and I wear a size 13. What would you guys recommend for everything. Thanks so much
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Hunter
6’3″ 195 start around a 162cm board, maybe a wide board with a size 13 shoe but try and demo or rent a few options to feel out what you like and what works for your riding style.
Thanks
Adam McGillivray says
6′ 260lbs. Been using a LTD Venom 157 board for over 10 years. 1 to 5 days a year. Looking to upgrade to new gear but haven’t kept up with what’s changed. Want to replace boots and bindings but not sure if I should consider a new board as well. My board is in good condition as im just barely confident enough for blue runs and avoid the park. Thoughts?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Adam
At 260lbs you may want to try something longer than 157cm maybe a 161cm or somewhere there about, boards have changed a lot in ten years but if you are happy with the one you have that’s also OK as a full new setup can be a big investment so if possible go demo or rent before making any decisions.
Thanks
Igor K. says
Hello, thanks for the chart, it’s nice starting point per se. However, I do have a question regarding specific board, Head ‘The Day’ (https://www.head.com/shop/en-IC/snowboard/boards/unisex/the-day-15.html?change_region=1) as it’s short but wide, pow oriented. I’m 193cm/71kg (6’3/156) and the board itself comes in …153/156/161 so I was wondering should I go for 156 or 161 taking my weight into consideration? As I don’t have an option to test them before buying them, I can only gather as much information online as I can. Thank you.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Igor
It’s really hard to comment on an exact board I haven’t ridden but at 6’3″ I would be looking at the 161cm, especially for Pow but you also know your riding style and how fast you want to throw your board around which would be easier on the 156cm but also less stable in cut up snow.
Thanks
Igor K. says
Thanks a lot for an answer! My style of riding is leaning more toward short turns whether I’m on hard pack or pow so I’m pretty much very active rider. But my weight/height ratio is a bit odd especially when board specs are way off (Head the Day, 161cm, rider weight between 80-100kg).
Anyway, thank you very much, will figure out something 🙂
Riley Bathurst says
Good luck with that and throw a post up in the app of ripping some turns when you get it sorted. As with our charts the companies can’t get a chart to fit everyone so if your confident to put some energy into your turns get the big boy.
Riley Bathurst says
As with our charts we can’t get everyone covered and there are too many variables to every rider but if your confident to put some energy into those turns get the big boy and go out and crush it.
Cris says
I am 6’2 230. I have a 160cm board that was given to me. I don’t really wanna buy a new one. Will that size be decent? I know it’s on the small end, but due to being free.. haha Thanks!
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Cris
160cm is probably all good for you depending on the board but as you say free does help so take it out for a couple days and see how it feels, don’t throw away a season for a couple bucks if you don’t feel good and if possible to purchase as Snowboarding is way cooler than a big bank account.
Thanks
Robin Goff says
Hello I really need some help. My son is 15, 6’3. And only weighs 130 lb. his shoe sz is 11 to 11.5. Please tell me what sz board should he be riding. Thank you.
LOST MOTHER, Robin
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Robin
130 for 6’3 isn’t too common and can have a lot of variance in strength so we suggest go check out your local store or demo days at mountains and just test a few boards to find where he is comfortable.
Thanks
Derek says
Hello,
I am a 5’10 male and weight 170 lbs. I recently purchased a 159cm board and I am wondering if this is going to be too big for me or if it is in my range.
Thanks
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Derek
5’10 170 has a 159cm pretty close to the top of what we suggest but thats totally OK, how does it feel to ride if you have had the chance yet? You might feel it big but good when you are fresh in the morning and heavy in the afternoon so a lunch break could be key to staying first chair to last call.
Thanks
Josh says
Hey guys, I’m 6’5 and weigh about 245lbs. I currently have a 163W board but am looking for an upgrade. Would a 167W be to big or fairly similar to what I currently have? I’m a pretty experienced rider. Thanks in advance.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Josh
Those 4cm can make a big difference so if possible get out there and demo or rent but otherwise think about how often you are in tight trees or moguls and if you feel like you could throw around a bigger board as that will be where the size change will come in. For ripping a big pow turn the 167cm would probably feel great for you.
Thanks
Sam says
Hello! I am 5′ 6″ and I weigh 165. I am a women’s size 8.5 in snowboard boots.
Is a 152 cm board ok for me?
All I really do is carve downhill, I don’t ever reallly go to the park.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Sam
5’6″ and 165 lbs has 152cm is within what we recommend for and if thats what feels good for you then that’s great if you have the chance to demo or rent a board before purchasing that can really help you know that one works for you to enjoy those carves.
Thanks
Ben says
Hey, I am 6’2” and 180lbs. Size 12 boot. Ride a lot of small Midwest hills but head out west once a year. More freeride, groomers, love Bowl powder but few and far between. Riding a 157 now, but want to know if I can stay under 160? Board I am looking at come in a 158 and 162. Appreciate your thoughts. Cheers.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Ben
At 6’2 and 180 riding a 157 / 158cm is on the smaller size but if that’s what feels good for you and many days your on groomers you can throw it into a carve and enjoy riding it then stay with that size.
Thanks
Chuck says
Hey Riley – awesome post and responses to all the questions. I am 6’3″ and 275 lb. I also have a size 15 boot. I rode a 166 this past weekend but I’m wondering two things: 1. Should I go up to a 168? 2. Should I get a wide board? Thanks!
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Chuck
At 275 you are probably looking more into stiffness then length unfortunately they don’t make too many boards in your size range so you will have to be less picky, but how did the 166cm feel? Was it comfortable in different snow conditions? A size 15 boot is normally where you will be looking at a wide board but in 166cm 168cm the board is made for a bigger boot too so how was your heel and toe overhang on the 166cm? Sorry to answer questions with questions but you are probably looking at quite a specific board so you may need to get in a store and have them measure some things up for you.
Thanks
Bryce says
6’1 215. East coast rider mostly tight trees. Been riding 150/154 Nugs the last couple of years. I’m ordering a skeleton key and trying to decide between a 158 and 162. Athletic and definitely an advanced rider. Been surfing for years so love that surfy feel. At least one trip out west every year so I’m looking to add a quiver board for powder but that can also handle regular days on the Mountain.
Appreciate your thoughts.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Bryce
We try not to comment on specific boards as it’s really hard to say without riding with you but if you are that close to a decision try and demo or rent both sizes for a day from your local store or hill that’s the best way to know for sure and a few extra cms can be a lot harder to get through tight trees but will float a lot more in pow.
Thanks
Julia says
Hi,
I’m 5’2, 110 pounds, Size 7 and am going to try to learn to snowboard. Looking for the ideal size board for my height and weight. Not sure if I should be looking into a child’s board because of my size. I’ve never snowboarded before, but would like something for “easy” riding that will be a great starter board.
Thanks
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Julia
Almost all snowboard companies make boarders for beginners and they are more forgiving and easier to learn on so talk to your local store about what they recommend and why but at 5’2 110lbs we are recommending around 142cms so with that info you should have a good place to start your search, also taking a lesson will set you in the right habits from day one and many instructors will be able to help you with board selection on your chairlift rides.
Thanks
Thomas says
Hi, I’m 5’8″ but quite heavy at 110kg, uk size 9 feet. For height is suggests 151-158, but weight is 159-165, quite a difference. Stance feels comfortable at 20″. I have access to a 161 board but don’t know if this too long, should I be looking for a 158/159? Thanks
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Thomas
If you have access to a 161 get out and try and ride it, it quite possible will feel big but that’s OK you might just have to use a lot of energy to throw it around into a turn but then also try and rent or demo a 158/159cm and maybe that will feel better.
Thanks
Ajla Brescic says
Hi I’m 5’3 and 135 pounds, what size snowboard do u think I should get. I’m a beginner.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Ajla,
We suggest starting around a 146 – 147 cm board but also as a beginner we really do suggest lessons and most instructors will be able to help with board selection when your riding the chair as they can see the way you ride.
Thanks
Damian Kress says
Hi there! I’m currently about to purchase a snowboard and the two sizes to choose between are 157/161. I’m 6’2” and 160 pounds abs love all mountain riding, lots of pow, groomers and backcountry but I plan to get more into park abs tricks. I understand 157 is quite small for my height but I feel it may be easier to throw around for tricks. Then again the 161 sounds nice for pow and all mountain. What do you think?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Damian
Some people need a quiver to have different boards for different days and you sound like your getting to that place.
Thanks
Alex says
Hello,
I just bought a Never Summer West Bound board that’s 160 cm in length. I mostly like to do backcountry and ride fast on groomed areas. Is the length ok for that or is it too short? I’m 6’0 and weigh 210 lbs.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Alex
How does the 160 cm feel, if it’s nice and stiff then maybe it’s just right for you and within a size range we could see working, on the other hand if you often fall out the front when riding powder then try and demo or rent something a bit larger 162cm or so and maybe that will be more fun.
Thanks
George says
Hello,
I am 5’10 , 170 lbs and boot size of 10 , I got a board size of 155 do I need a larger one ?
Thanks
George
Riley Bathurst says
Hey George
155cm is right about where we would recommend you look for boards but if you feel like it is riding too small for you try and demo or rent something a little larger, a couple of centimeters can make a large difference and maybe that will feel better for you.
Thanks
stefan says
Hey!
I am 5,8 and i am searching for the right size snowboard for freestyle, i do skateboarding a lot so im asking if you can recommend me a board that is shorter. Is 147cm good or is that just too short for me?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Stefan
At 5′ 8″ we do generally recommend a board longer than 147cm but if you like riding that size and spend a lot of time in the park and it feels good for you then that’s your answer, if possible go and demo something a little bigger even if just to understand how it rides around the mountain and in fresh snow so you have an idea about why we often recommend those bigger sizes.
Thanks
Jodie says
Hi there! I’m just starting out and learning to snowboard. I’m 5′ 4″ and 120 lbs. I want to buy a used snowboard that’s 149 cm. I saw a chart that said I should aim to get something 143-145 cm. What do you think? Is the 149 okay?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Jodie
A 149cm is larger than we recommend for your size and especially as a beginner it will take more energy and be harder to learn than something a little smaller as a few cms can make a big difference. A good deal isn’t really a good deal on a second hand board if you can’t ride the way you want so we suggest trying to get out and rent or demo a few boards to find out what you like and what works for you.
Thanks
Josh says
Hi I’m a beginner, I’m 6’ and I weigh around 200 pounds. Not sure what to look for in board length. I’m looking at a lot of 154-157 boards.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Josh
At 6’ we recommend 156 – 163cm and at 200 we’re on the upper side of this so try and get out and demo or rent a few bigger boards than what you are thinking it might make a world of difference in fresh snow or snow that has been skies and is cut up after a storm but depends how you ski and trees or freestyle you might like the shorter boards.
Thanks
Leah says
Hi. I just bought a Ride Compact 154. I’m 5’5” and 180 sadly. It’s hard to find larger women’s boards. Will that work hopefully?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Leah
Reach out to the board companies on social media or email I’m sure they will be happy to hear your feedback about what you are looking for, also we know plenty go women ridding mens boards, if they work for you that’s totally fine.
The only way to really know is to get out and ride the board, unless its fresh and plastic and there is a return situation maybe it’s something your with for now but there can also be an opportunity to resell it if you try out some bigger boards and don’t like this but we think it’s ok.
Julia says
Hi I’m 5’9 and 145 lbs. I have been riding for years, but always rented. What would be a good size and type of board?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Julia
You fit pretty good in our rating for around a 153cm board but having rented hopefully you remember something you enjoyed riding as every board is a little different
Tony says
I’m 5’9 and 130 lbs.
I bought a 149. Do you think it’s ok?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Tony
149 is a little shorter than we recommend but if you are enjoying riding it then stick with it but maybe try and demo something bigger to see how that feels as well.
Thanks
Kushagra says
Hi,
I am around 168 cm tall (5’5″-5’6″) and weigh 145 lbs.
This is my second season riding. I learnt snowboarding last year using my friend’s older board which was 148cm long, I have become more confident in my turning and carving but find this board a bit short and shaky at higher speeds.
I am trying to pick between a 152cm and 155cm long board for the one I am now purchasing. Which size do you think would be ideal for me. I am leaning towards the 155 as I want something longer than my current board (148cm), but I am unsure if 155 will be too long for my height/weight combo. Any advice on this would be greatl.
Thank you!
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Kushagra
Jumping from 148cm to 155cm will definitely be a big step and require a lot more energy but sounds like you need something bigger so we definitely suggest getting on the 155cm if you can demo or rent before purchase that make life a lot easier but otherwise remember you may need more ride breaks on a bigger board.
Thanks

hello i want to buy nitro team gullwing snowboard 159sm high so i need a advice from you should i buy regular or wide snowboard because i am wearing and i will buy nitro thunder boots us 10,5 (285mm) or us 11 (290mm).I am 183sm high and 86 kg heavy.Thank you in advance!
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Ivan
That would be a direct question for Nitro or someone who has been in contact with a tech rep for them you will be able to find online or at your local stockiest of Nitro.
Thanks
Nikki says
Hi I’m 5’4 and 138lb I currently have a 146 board is that too small for me?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Nikki
146cm is inside our recommendations but it is on the lower end, how does it feel to ride? are you comfortable in powder or trees? We would suggest next time your on the hunt for a new board try and demo or rent something a little larger to see if that’s enjoyable.
Thanks
Sky says
Hey,
I am 5ft 4 and 120lbs, total beginner, what size of board would you recommend?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Sky
Start looking for boards around 145cm a lesson when you are just starting can go a long way and a good instructor can help you with choosing the right board as well.
Thanks
Anna says
If I should ride 159 based off my sizing, do I have any chance with a board that’s 151?
Riley Bathurst says
Hi Anna
That all depends on how you ride, these are not a strict guide but we suggest you try and demo or rent a board around the size we suggest as it may prove it rides better for you.
Thanks
Joseph says
Hi. The chart is very helpful. I’m 5’3 and 150 lbs. I’m looking at a 154cm snowboard on sale. I checked the size chart of the board and they only size it by weight. The 154 board is recommended for weight 100 – 160 lbs. The smallest one, which is 151 and recommended for weight 100 – 150lbs. Looks like im at the maximum weight for 151cm board. Is 154 board too long for my body size?
The board is Capita Kazu kKokubo.
Riley Bathurst says
Hi Joseph every board is slightly different so we try not to comment on a specific board but try and demo or rent the board you are looking for or something similar to know what size works best for you if you are deciding between the two.
Thanks
Anonymous says
Hey so I am 5’10” and weigh around 143 lb. What size snowboard would you suggest? I’ve gone a couple of times now.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey
Our sizing guide would suggest around a 154cm but try and demo or rent something to test if that feels right for you, if you’re still just starting lessons can be a great investment and an instructor will be able to help with boards for your level.
Thanks

Hey there,
I’m 181cm, 182lbs, doing mostly resort (not really in the park), but like to cruise around, carve, butter/ollie/small jumps. What length would you recommend?
Been looking at Capita Warpspeed 161. Let me know what you think. thanks
Riley Bathurst says
Hey
We don’t recommend specific boards there’s just too many factors to consider but 161 is right around where would recommend for size so if your interested in the Warpspeed try and get out to demo it for a day and see if you really do like it.
Orlando A says
Hello,
I’m 5’4 and weigh 140lbs and size 8.5 US men’s shoes.
I just bought the Burton Clash Men’s Snowboard ‘16/‘17 151cm – is that a good size? I’m a beginner snowboarder and it just looks to big for me but I’m not sure.
Thanks,
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Orlando
at 5’4″ and 140lbs a 151 is a good size snowboard for what we recommend, we don’t comment on specific boards as there are just too many variables for exactly who you are and how you ride, We do suggest learning from a strong teacher early on in your snowboarding building a good base with help you learn fast and further.
Thanks
lyam says
Hi, I am 6ft 2, 180 pounds and size 11 UK feet. Been looking for an all mountain board, found a good deal in a 162 wide, is this appropriate? Cheers
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Lyam
at 6’2″ 180lbs a 162cm board is right in where we recommend so if at all possible get out and ride that board and see if it rides well for you style.
Thanks
lyam says
Hi thanks for the reply, unfortunately I don’t have the ability to ride it. Do you think I should go for a wide board or a normal width board? My shoes are DC controls
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Lyam
Many board companies will have recommendations for the specific board about boot size or if you ask the brand or store you are purchasing from they can give answers about the exact details as a size 11 can go either way of regular or wide width depending on the board.
Thanks
marie says
Hi I’m 5’8 and weigh 125 pounds and wear a size 8.5 women’s boot. What size board would you recommend?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Marie
Start looking around a 150cm board, demo or rent a few options and find out what feels best for you.
Thanks
Mia says
Hi, I am 5’2″ and about 125-130 lbs. I’m looking for the right size for an all mountain board for some east coast riding, so mostly hard packed snow and ice.
Thanks
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Mia
Starting looking around the 146cm length and demo or rent a few options to find what works best for you, keeping the edges in good shape will really help out with those icy days.
Thanks
Justin says
Hi I’m 5’10” 205 lbs. My choices were 158 or 162. Thoughts?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Justin
We would recommend 162 for someone 205 but try and demo or rent both options and see what feels best for your riding.
Thanks

Good evening i am a beginner/intermediate and I am 5 ft 1,5’ and weigh around 135lbs. What size board would you recommend? Thanks so much!
Riley Bathurst says
Hey
Start by looking around the 146cm length but try and demo or rent to find out what you feel most comfortable with.
Thanks
Pat says
hey guys looking to get into park a lot more this year, i have a new 151cm i used last year but im thinking i should go smaller would like another opinion? im 5’7-150lbs.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Pat
If your version of park is rails then going shorter can help to spin in and out faster but for hitting jumps something bigger can give you more stability, board stiffness also plays a big role in the park so try demo or rent a couple of options and find out what changes in your riding at different sizes.
Thanks
Johnny says
Hi!!
Brilliant so far.
I’m 5.11 size 9 uk. I’m looking at a 155 Salomon Huck knife to bomb around the mountain. Would you suggest selecting a wider version?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Johnny
We don’t recommend specific boards, there are just too many but a size 9 will generally be fine on a regular width board but take your boots and bindings into a store to check it out.
Thanks
Anthony says
I’m 5’9 190-200 lbs. I have a 158. Considering moving down to 156. Do you recommend staying or moving down?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Anthony
For 200 we recommend the 158 but if there is a reason your looking at a 156 then definitely get out there and demo or rental from your local shop or mountain and maybe it will be what you are looking for.
Thanks
jack says
do you think a 156cm board is a good size for me i am 5’10” and 150lbs
thanks 🙂
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Jack
156 is in the range we recommend so try and demo or renting a board before purchasing if you can and make sure you like the way it rides.
Thanks
Charles King says
Im a weight lifter so my weight is more then what my hight chart says. Im 5’5 and wrigh 187. My friend gave me a Burton x. When i measured it was about a 162. Would I be able to use this board?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Charles
A 162 is normally more than we would recommend for someone 5’5 but try it and maybe you can handle it, take a demo or rental of something shorter out and maybe you will find it easier to ride tho.
Thanks

Hey Adam
a 159 is within what we recommend so get out there and try it out.

I am 5’9 142 pounds looking for a board think about the new assassin pro from Salomon. The one I bought two years ago is a 150cm Salomon Villain. I love to ride park and have been for 9 years. I am 21 now so not going to be growing anymore haha. Should I stick with the 150 or try a 153 out?
Thanks, Evan
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Evan
We don’t comment on specific boards but if your happy on the 150 thats your answer. We suggest demoing or renting out other boards to see if you like them more tho.
Thanks
Timothy Ryan Burr says
Hello, I am 240 pounds 5 ft 9 in and where an 11.5 boot. I do all mountain freestyle and because I don’t fit into a direct height weight category I would like to know what board to get. I’ve been on a burton rippey 154 for 20 years and by height 154 is the right size but by weight a 162 would be the right size what do you think?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Timothy
Boards have changed a lot in 20 years so try and jump on something new, it’ll blow you away and maybe try split the difference and start with a 158cm and demo or rent to see if that feels good.
Thanks
Lisa says
Hi, I am trying to figure out a board for my daughter. She is 11 yrs old 5’2.5″ and weighs 86 lbs. Wears a women’s 9 shoe. Very athletic but super thin. What size would you recommend?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Lisa
Start around the 140cm size but try and demo or rent first as at that size its hard for us to recommend something too specific.
Thanks
Holly says
Hey there,
I am 4’11/5ft and way around 54kgs and a size 6 or 7 boot, because I’m small I’m just curious which board I need. From this it says a board between 139-145 and thats okay or would u prefer an actual size? pls help,
Thank you,
Holly
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Holly
We always give a range as everyone and every board is different so try and demo or rent something from your local store or mountain but a good starting point would be 141cm and work from there.
Thanks
Joseph Lyutfalibekov says
Hello! I am a 5’9 rider and 140 lbs. I’m believe the best size for me would be 152 cm but i’m curious to see how a 155 cm board would be. What do you think is best for me?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Joseph
Try and demo a 155 maybe how you ride will feel good with those extra few cms so try and rent or demo something at your local shop or mountain and take a few laps.
Thanks
Austin R says
Hi, I’m 5’ 9” and 180lbs. My previous board was a playful rocker on the shorter side (154) but I’ve gained some weight over the years and have been considering a new board around 157. I don’t want to go too short, but I like the perks of a short-medium length board vs a long one for my height/weight. I’m intermediate and all-mountain. Looking for a second opinion, thanks!
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Austin
Yeah we recommend around the 157 so try and get out to demo something in that length and make sure your happy your opinion is the only one that matters.
Thanks
Chris says
Hey Riley!
I’m looking to buy my first board, and am looking at the two boards below. I am 5’8 and 190 lbs.
Which would be the best for my height/weight? Or should I be looking at something else?
2019 K2 Standard -158CM
2019 Burton Ripcord – 157CM
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Chris
We can’t comment on specific boards there are just too many variables but either 157 or 158 is in a good length for you to start looking, if possible rent or demo both of those and see what feels best for you.
Thanks
Chris says
5,8 to 5.9 220 Just got a 155 should I have gone with the 159 or 163? Second riding season. Mostly ride groomers Its a Nitro Woodcarver..
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Chris
We don’t comment on specific boards but if the 155 feels good then stick with it, if you get the chance try and demo or rent something bigger and maybe that will be your next board.
Thanks
Rocky lane says
I found a board and boots cheap but its 149cm I’m 5’9″ and weight 160lbs is that ok or would it be too short?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Rocky
That’s quite a bit shorter than we recommend, so saving a few bucks might not be worth it or at least try and rent or demo something bigger before you decide.
Thanks
Ryan says
Hey I’m 6 foot and weigh 180 pounds with a size 11 boot. I found a board I really like but the only wide Option is a 158w. Is this going to be too short for me?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Ryan
Wide boards often ride bigger than the length suggests so it could well be good for you, we always suggest trying to rent or demo a board to check if you like it before purchase.
Thanks

I am 6’0 and around 160 pounds. I currently ride a 153cm Millennium Three Board and it seems like it’s not too bad other than my size 12 boots off the board a bit. I’m fairly good but have only been a few times. Would you recommend a different size board for a better riding ability or is 153 okay? I’m not into any tricks just mainly riding hills.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey
At 6′ 153cm is shorter than we recommend and with a size 12 it might be pretty skinny so try and rent or demo something larger and see if you enjoy that a little more.
Thanks
Mason Messerschmidt says
im 6’0 and 160 also but Im thinking about a 156cm board. Is that a good match if I have size 11 boots?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Mason
156 is on the shorter end of what we recommend and with a size 11 you may need a wide so you would do best to demo or rent the board you are looking at first.
Thanks
Ryan Parkinson says
Hey I weigh between 170 and 180 pounds and im 6 feet tall with size 11 boots. I just bought a 158cm midwide board. I haven’t had a chance to take it out yet but do you think this was a good choice for size?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Ryan
Yeah that’s within what we recommend so try and take it for a spin.
Thanks
J bard says
I am 5’3 110 lbs and size 9 shoe. (men’s)

Hey J
We recommend trying to demo or rent something in the mid 140s and see how those feel.
Thanks
Jacob says
Not sure if you’re still responding to this but I’ve been trying to figure out sizing for a park board for me. I’m 6’1″ 170 Lbs, with a size 14 boot. Thanks!
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Jacob yes we are.
A size 14 will quite possibly put you on a wide board so try and demo or rent something wide in the low 160s and find what feels good for you there.
Thanks
Ali Hoffman says
My boyfriend is 6’3 and 168 pounds what size board should he get? hes also a size 12 shoe so i know he will need a wide board. Maybe a 160W or something similar? hes snowboarded many times before and isnt a beginner. what size should he look for?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Ali
Yeah 160W is a good place to start, maybe a little longer depending on what he has ridden before, unfortunately, there are less wide boards around as rentals or demo but a local store or mountain should be able to help him try and get him on the right size.
Thanks
Bradly Kline says
Hey, my sons looking at getting his first board. Weight 130, height 5’9″, foot is size 12. What would be a good size board height and width for him.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Bradly
5’9 130 we recommend something in the low 150s, learning with a few lessons can really help with the basics and a good instructor will gladly help with board buying advice.
Thanks
Jeff says
I’m 5’10 163lbs and wear an 11 size boot. Is a 160 too big for me?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Jeff
160 is on the upper edge but within what we recommend for your size so if that feels right to you go for it or iof you are shopping try demo the board first.
Thanks
Pam says
Hi,
I’m 5’9″ and 215lbs. Can you help recommend a length? I learned on a Roxy board that is probably about a 154 or 155 but I probably weighed about 175lbs then. Haven’t ridden in about 10 years but looking to get back out more now that my kids are getting on the hill. Found the old board chatters a lot and need something that will better support my weight. Impossible to find female boards for my size but have no issue with mens boards…just not sure where to start as i don’t really fit the chart.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Pam
If a mens board feels better for you go for it, sometimes they are stiffer so that will help with the chatter. We would suggest stepping up a few cms to the high 150s try and rent or demo a few boards to see where you feel comfotable.
Thanks
`41 says
Hi, My son is 6′ 7″ & 135-140 pounds
Riley Bathurst says
Hey
We recommend getting down to your local store or demo day at a mountain as your son is outside the usual height to weight ratio and just see where he feels comfotable.
Thanks
Hans says
Hey…I’m 6”0 and weigh about 170. I’ve only used a rental that was 160cm which I was comfortable on, but now I’m looking to buy. I like what I see on reviews for the Salomon craft, but it seems to only come in wide for 160cm. My boot size is 10 1/2. Am I better off getting the wide at 160 or regular at 158?? Thanks in advance.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Hans
We can’t comment on specific boards there are just too many but a wide board will often ride significantly larger so if you are not having problems with a regular width we suggest you stick to those, plus it will give you much more choice.
Thanks
AJ says
Hey, I am looking to buy my brother a new snowboard for Christmas but I am not sure what board size to get him.
He is 5’5 and weighs about 210-220. He usually just freerides.
Thanks
Riley Bathurst says
Hey AJ
At 5’5 215 we would suggest something in the high 150’s it’s always hard buying for someone else as everyone has a different opinion on how a board rides so maybe letting him have some input isn’t a bad idea.
Thanks
Marko says
Hi I’m a little over 5’4 and need a snowboard for this year and next year. I do all mountain. Is 153cm good?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Marko
153 is right about the largest we recommend for someone of your height so we suggest getting out there to test and demo the board you are looking at.
Thanks
Ting says
Hi, my son is 12 years old 100lbs and 4”9 tall, will 132cm fit or he needs to go to 140cm. Thank you
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Ting
the jump between 132 and 140 is a lot, we recommend closer to the 140 tho so try and get out to demo or rent something around that size to see if it feels comfortable.
Thanks
Lori says
Hi my daughter is 5 ft 1″ and weighs 145 lb and wears a size 6.5 shoe. What size board would you recommend for her. She is also a beginner.
Thanks.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Lori
She’s only just outside our recommendations so starting to look at a 147cm or slightly bigger is a good place to start as a beginner a lesson or coach can really help and they will have good insight into what board will suit her best.
Thanks
Kate says
Hi, I’m 5’4, 126Ibs, size women 8. Is 147 too long for me? I’m a progressing beginner/intermediate rider, learn really fast so I’m hoping to get an all-mountain board that will last me through different stages. What length would you recommend?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Kate
147cm is right around where we recommend but try and demo or rent a board at your local shop or mountain to see if it suits the way you ride.
Thanks
Bri says
Hi. I am a 5’9 female who weighs about 135-140, shoe size 9. I currently ride a 152 but I don’t feel like I can board but have as much control. I board best with a shorter board after an injury. What is smallest board that you would suggest.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Bri
We recommend around the 152cm but that doesn’t mean it’s right for everyone, try and demo or rent some shorter boards and you’ll get a feel for what you can handle.
Thanks
Alex says
Hi,i’m 5’7 and 157 lbs and it will be my first time on a snowboard. Can you give me some advice on what’s the correct size for me?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Alex
Starting off with a lesson can really help you set your foundation for snowboarding with good habits so we recommend that with the bonus of a good instructor will be able to help you with board selection, if you rent something to start out you can easily change sizes but we suggest starting around the 154cm length.
Thanks
Tim M. says
Hi, I’m 5 feet 7 inches and weigh 156 pounds. Is a 157cm too big for me?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Tim
157cm is on the upper side of what we would recommend but if that feels good and suits your riding that’s more important than any chart.
Thanks
Shakeel says
Hi Riley, I am 160cm and 65 kg (max weight, tendency is to be somewhere between 60kg and 63kg). Currently I have a Burton (bought 16 years ago) which is 153cm so it reaches somewhere between the nose and eye line. I am going to buy a new board this year. The shop recommended a DC 156. Having 156 in the model name means it is only available in that size. Looking at every chart, both weight, as well as height or combination of both, it seems that this board is too long for me. Shop guys say that if I have no interest in freestyle (which I don’t) and I simply want to carve in different conditions then a longer one gives me more speed and stability. The board seems awesome and it weighs so much less than my current board but I am afraid to spend so much money if it is not the right one for me. Please advise.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Shakeel
Ask the shop if you can take it out for a demo or if they can DC to send on in for a demo, they will often be able to. It’s true a longer board can help for stability, speed is a side effect of feeling more stable so turning less but there are downsides like it will be harder to turn through tight trees. Whatever new board you get a new board will be amazing compared to something from 16 years ago.
Thanks

Try start around something 159cm and if possible start with a lesson as a beginner an instructor can really help you on choosing a board.

Hi, I’m looking to buy my boyfriend a new snowboard for his birthday. He is 5’10”, but is between 210-220 lbs (very muscular, football player). Do you have any suggestions?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Regina
Try looking around 162cm, buying boards as a gift can be really difficult as people can like a lot of things so sometimes it can be good to let him have some input before purchasing, or try get a demo of the board you are thinking about.
Thanks
Tessa says
I’m 5’8 and 143lbs, recently started snowboarding. I found a decently cheap used 150cm womens 2016 K2 snowboard, but wasn’t sure if that would be the correct size.
Should I try and find a different size?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Tessa
A 150cm board is a little shorter than we would recommend but that doesn’t mean it won’t work for you, unfortunately a second hand board can be softer and in conjunction with a short board it might not handle as you would hope.
Thanks
Tim says
Im 6’1, 150 lbs and have around size 12.5 (US) i think. What kind of board should i use?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Tim
At 12.5 you are looking at wide boards and 6’1 150 we suggest around the 158cm so I would try and start your search there.
Thanks
Emily says
Hi I’m 5’6 and between 160-170lbs just wondering if a board that’s 147cm is a good size or too short? Thank
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Emily
We recommend something bigger than that but also if you are happy with a 147cm then that’s great but try and get out to demo or rent some other options to understand why a longer board will help with stability and control.
Thanks
Stephanie says
Hi I’m 5’1, 115 pounds and a beginner. What board would you recommend for me? Thanks!!
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Stephanie
We would recommend starting you search around 142cm, as a beginner an instructor can help a lot with base principles and choosing a board that would work for you.
Thanks
JJ says
Hey I’m 6’5” and 260 with a 12.5 shoe…. I’m an intermediate boarder nothing crazy like hitting the trick park but enough to cruise down the mountain without falling I’ve been using a 159 board and it’s not wide my toes hang off the sides but I’ve gotten really comfortable with it… what size do you think I should be using and should I maybe keep the 159 and just get a wide board???
Eric Lee O'Brien says
Hi JJ, a wide board will help a lot with toe and heel drag with that size of foot. For sizing it comes down to what you like and are most comfortable with. You’re best option would be to demo a few different sizes at your local shop to test out a few bigger options. Generally we’d recommend a bigger board for you in the 165cm or greater range.
Dorsey says
Hello, my daughter is 4’3 and is 82 pounds. What size board do you recommend? She’s a beginner.
Thanks so much!
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Dorsey
We would suggest starting with a lesson or a coach that is knowledgeable in the area of riding with people of her size as she’s probably growing and there are many variables that having someone watch her ride and get her setup will help with most.
Thanks
ryan says
hi, i am 5’7 around 140 pounds US size 8.5-9, which one should i pick? 154 or 156cm board?
Eric Lee O'Brien says
Hi Ryan, it depends on the type of riding you like to do. We’d recommend a 154cm board if you like a smaller more playful option or the 156cm if you want a board that will charge better. Although if you can we would suggest demoing a couple different sizes and your local shop to see which one you like better.
Kevin says
Hi I am 5’6 around 210 lbs US shoe size 8-8.5. I used to ride a lot but haven’t in over 10 years – my old board was a Ride Kink 152 cm, but I was also 30-40 lbs lighter back then. I have been looking at boards ranging from 156-161 cm, looking for mostly freeride/all mountain. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Kevin
Yeah 156 – 161 is probably a good spot to be looking, try demo or rent a few options and just get stoked on being back out there.
Thanks
J says
Hi, I’m a beginner at snowboarding and am wondering if a 149 board would be too long (all-mountain)? I want to get the capita paradise but only the 149 is suitable for size 8 boots. The paradise fits the profile, flex and shape I’m looking for, plus I’ve read a lot of reviews on it that really fit my style. I am 5’5 (166cm) and weigh 120lbs (54kg). Thank you!
Riley Bathurst says
Hey J
149cm is for sure suitable for someone of your size, try and get out there to demo or rent it as your light it might be hard to flex the board enough to give the best performance but the only way to know is to ride it and remember a board will soften the more you ride it.
Thanks
Sarah says
Hey thanks for your helpful article! I hope you’re still giving recommendations because I’d love one. 🙂
I am female, around 5’6 and 110lb, with size 7.5-8 boot (L bindings). My current board is a 145cm, but looking to replace it with either a 146 or a 148 (I don’t do any park, mostly groomers & powder). I’m having trouble due to being very light for my height, with larger feet. With either size option I’m way down the bottom end of the weight range.
What would you recommend? Or would either size work for me? Thanks so much!
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Sarah
Yeah we are still here and trying to help out. The main question is are you happy with the 145? Every board measures and rides a little different so going up a couple cm’s can either be a very small change or a very big one so try and demo or rent the exact boards you are looking for to know if those couple extra cm’s feels too much. With your weight you might be looking for a softer board to be able to give it the flex you need.
Thanks
Noel says
Hi I’m 6ft 178lbs and size 9.5 UK/10.5 US intermediate level, I’m pretty convinced about getting a Jones Mountain Twin board but can’t decide between 160 and 162cm length, I’m literally torn. I’m worried the 160 might be a little to short to hold my edge but the 162cm more difficult to turn 🤯 any advice greatly appreciated, I’m mostly free ride but occasionally park, my last board was a 161cm K2 recon riser but found it a bit too stiff and often slide out on my heel edge on steep runs🤷♂️
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Noel
Yeah that’s a hard one, can you get a demo or a rental of both for a day? If your 161 was too much to handle in certain situation try the 160 for your size and height that should still be big enough to hold a strong edge.
Thanks
Rachael Etter says
Hey!
I’m 5’7, 125 lbs. Boot size 6/7
I’m beginner/intermediate and freeride is my style.
Been on a 142 board. Charts are saying it’s okay for my weight but considering my height. I feel it’s short. What should I go up too?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Rachael
We recommend looking around the 148cm size, stepping up around 6cms will feel like a lot the first few days so really focus on your technique to be keep yourself in control but you should begin to feel the edges hold better through your carves.
Thanks
Nicolas says
Hey im around 5’9 weigh 145 and wear size 10 boots. Wondering what size board i should get. Tried a 153-155 and it felt sluggish compared to a 150 a couple weeks back. Thing is the boards i want that are 147-152 say boot size max is 9.5 like the asymulator. Dont know if the reason it felt sluggish was size difference or the board itself since it was a cheap off resort rental.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Nicolas
I would wonder about how different the two boards are, we always recommend riding a board if possible before purchasing as maybe the 153 was just not the board for you.
Thanks
Ayden McMichael says
Hey I am 5ft tall and 100 pounds and I recently bought a snowboard that is about 5ft 1in tall is this too big for be or will I be able to keep it under control?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Ayden
We don’t recommend boards taller than the rider, but since you already own it you can try and ride it now but there’s a good chance it is too big for you and will require a lot effort to ride and keep in control.
Thanks
Erik S. says
Looking into buying a never summer Proto type 2, I’m 5’9-5’10 155-160lbs shoe size 11. Should I get the 154 or 157? I found a really good priced 157 and while I was set on the 154, I’ve heard the difference is not noticeable because of the quality of the build.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Erik
We can’t comment on any specific board, there are just too many variables, every board will ride different at different when the size is changed, try and demo or rent both before purchasing would be the best way to know how each responds as both a 54 and 57 are within what we recommend to someone your size, but check the widths a size 11 is really wide for a 154
Thanks
Jake T says
I’m 6ft, weighing around 165lb, is a 157 board alright? I’m probably gonna shred the mountain but i still wanna go to the park. Just wondering if thats a good size for me, should I also get a wider board cus my boot size is 12. Lmk thanks.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Jake
With a size 12 boot look into the wider boards rather than the longer if you are happy with the 157, most board companies publish guidelines on what size boots go with a regular or wide width board for their range.
Thanks
Clavio Steltman says
Hello,
I am 203 cm and I am about 93 kg, I mostly ride slopes. What would you recommend?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Clavio
At 203cm you are really on the upper end of most regularly stocked boards by most shops so you will be looking around the high 160’s so talk to your local shop they may need to get something specifically for you.
Thanks
Paul says
Hi wondered if you could advise on the right snowboard length for me. I’m 5 ft9 and weight around 65kg. I’m not sure if I should get a 152cm or 155cm salomon huck knife. I ride groomers for carving but am not starting to learn buttering skills. My ride helix is 155cm and I find it real tricky to flex. So thought a few cm shorter would be good but dont want to loose loads of stability carving. Cheers
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Paul
We don’t comment on specific boards but yes dropping a couple cm’s will help you flex a board but also a different board will change a flex pattern so try and demo or rent both the 152 and 155 to see which you like better as it all comes down to personal preference.
Thanks
Paul says
Hey I know this article is kinda old but I’m still hoping you can help me out with a bit of your knowledge.
I’m looking to buy my first snowboard. My height is 1.92m / 6″3 and I weigh 85kg / 187lbs.
I’m looking for an beginner all-mountain snowboard.
Thanks in advance.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Paul
We are still trying to help, at 192cm, 85kg we recommend a board in the low to mid 160cm range, depending on how often you get to ride and coaching you may be progressing quickly meaning you will move through beginner boards to something more advanced so it’s hard to pick a board but a good instructor will be able to help with where your skill are and how they relate to which board you should be looking at. Being a beginner it can be good to demo or rent a number of boards to get the feeling of what works for you personally.
Thanks
Stan says
Hey Team – 5’6 and 150 lbs. 8/8.5 boot. Beginner here and had an amazing time this winter so I’m looking to buy my first board. Was looking at a 150, 152 or a 153. Having a tough time deciding as I didn’t feel much of the difference among the boards. Not sure if I’m just too inexperienced. I know a shorter board is better for me to master the basics, but I want to keep using the board up until intermediate. Have any words of advice? Thanks so much!!
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Stan
Yes as you progress you’ll feel more difference in boards, as a beginner often times having an instructor or a stronger rider review your riding as they may be able to see the difference in boards and be able to help, obviously a little complicated in the 2020 season so if you are happy with all the different lengths pick the one that you liked the most.
Thanks
Kara says
Hey Riley,
I’m looking at grabbing a new board with end of season sales- I’m just between 5’3 and 5’4 and 130 lbs. I can’t decide between a 147 and a 149 and can’t demo due to COVID. I’m mostly a freerider, and I want a board that handles pow a bit better than my current board but still handles tight trees. What should I get?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Kara
I’m not exactly sure of your best bet there but you may be able to call and talk to shops and reps that have supplied women of your size with boards similar to what you want, or even better have ridden a couple options you are looking at. Friends may have boards that you can jump on and hike a little patch of snow as stay home restrictions start to open up but it is going to be harder to take advantage of those deals right now.
Thanks
Elaine says
Hello there,
i’m a female with 12 years riding experience. I’m 5’3 about 140lb, and I want an all mountain board that is stiffer in flex for fasting riding and carving. Some say go shorter while others say go longer. What do you think?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Elaine
The stiffness of a board is independent of the length, although a longer board will be more stable, we suggest your measurements would be around a 150cm board where are you at the moment?
Thanks

Hi Riley,
I’m looking for a snowboard during the memorial day sales. I am 5’1 and weight 130 lbs I’m not sure what a good size board would be for me. I also am a size 6 1/2 shoes. What should I get?
Riley Bathurst says
Hi Nancy
We suggest starting looking around 146cm, sales are hard as we always suggest trying to demo or rent a board before purchasing a size is only one of the considerations when purchasing.
Thanks
Graham Haydock says
Hi Riley
I am 6ft 4″/194cm in height and weigh 85kg. I am now intermediate + and looking at getting an all mountain freestyle board(Jones Mountain Twin). I have size 9.5UK boots but they are actually 31.5cm long as they are 6 year old Saloman Launch. I can’t try any boards out before buying….What size board do you recommend?
Options are 161w (26cm width) , 162 (25.6cm width) or 164w (26.5cm width)
The borrowed board I have at the moment is 26.5cm wide and I have an inch over hang on heel and toe already, even with a 9.5UK boot.
I’m a little worried about the overhang but feel I really shouldn’t need a wide board with 9.5uk boot!
Please help! haha.
Graham
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Graham
Tough situation to buy a board now without testing but if you have the board picked but are worried about width get in touch with Jones. They should have specifics on what size they make the wide for. I would guess a 9.5 should fit the regular width of a 162 but confirm with them.
Depending on your usage a 6-year-old boot may also be past it’s best and if you find something that’s shorter for a 9.5 and fits better but I understand the money of multiple pieces of hardware can be a lot.
A 164w is a very big board and at 85kg I’m scared it would be too much for someone intermediate to push around.
I’m guessing your stats would put you on the 162 regular width but talk to Jones and hopefully they can help some more.
If it helps I’m your weight but 6ft with a 10.5 boot and ride 161-162cm regular width boards.
Jake says
Hello, I am about 6’5″ and 170lbs with size 13 feet. I am an intermediate rider and was just wondering if you could recommend me a snowboard size that would be good for powder and groomed trails but mainly fresh powder. Also if you have any recommendations for a specific board that comes in my size that would be great. Thanks!
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Jake
Sorry we don’t recommend specific boards there are just soo many but you are going to have to look for the larger boards and with size 13 feet quite possibly a wide as well. Look around the 164cm length, a store might have to talk to the brands as many won’t carry the largest sizes for demos or rentals, which is also a problem right now but do your best to get your hands on one before you purchase.
Thanks
Kassandra says
Hey Riley,
I am 5’2 weigh 207 lbs, and a size 9 in shoes; I’m not sure what a good size board would be for me since since it would be my first. What board should I get?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Kassandra
When it’s your first board the best option might be to get a lesson and talk to your instructor as they will see things in your ride and strengths that will change what board to buy. Sorry it’s not a direct answer but a day of lessons can help a lot with gear as well as building good riding habits.
Thanks
Joe says
Hey Riley,
I’m 6’2 and 185-190lbs with size 11 boot. Not a beginner, but not yet an intermediate rider. I stick to green and blue groomers. Is a 162W ok for me?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Joe
Yeah, 162cm is within our guidelines so that’s good to look at and if you can demo or rent the board first. An 11 is close to a wide but does depend on your setup so talk to your local store about if you need that wide or a regular width in the boards you are looking at.
Thanks
BRITTNEY says
HI I JUST PURCHASED A 142 BOARD BURTON STYLUS IM 5’4 130 LB AND WEAR A 7.5 SHOE.
IS THIS BOARD GOING TO BE OKAY FOR ME. ITS THE ONLY SIZE THEY HAD LEFT.?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Brittney
A 142 is smaller than we would recommend, this might be ok depending on how you ride but could be a problem to push strength through your carves, have good balance and especially in powder. A cheap or available board does not mean it’s a good board and may slow your progression. Taking a lesson and talking to the instructor about your board might be a good next step.
Thanks
Caruso says
Hello I am 6 foot an weigh around 175 lbs
I am a freestyle park rider an I really have my heart set on a certain design on a lib tech magnatraction board it’s a 157 cm will that b to short for me ?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Caruso
If you really want that board then trying to demo or test it before riding it is best as it might not ride for you as you have seen in reviews as everyone rides differently. Going shorter for a park board is great for spinning faster but worse for more speed and landing larger jumps so it depends on what kind of park you ride as this is on the shorter side of what we recommend for someone your size.
Thanks
Darin Ge says
Hi,
I have a question, I am 156 cm tall, 120 lbs, and have size 9 K2 Lewiston boots.
What size snowboard should I get?
Darin says
I also want to ask what width i should get?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Darin
We recommend starting to look around 142cm, every board and person rides differently so if possible demo or rent before you buy or take a lesson and talk to an instructor about gear while taking a lesson. With size 9 boots you should be fine with a regular width board but a local shop will help you with that setup to make sure you don’t have too much heel or toe, drag or underhang.
Thanks
Jam says
Hey Riley!
Really appreciate your thread.
I’ve just reserved a cheap first snowboard online, secondhand, and I haven’t picked it up yet but I’m now unsure whether it’s going to be the right size for me, as websites give different advice and suggestions!
I’m 5’6, 126lbs and size (uk) 7 boots. The board is a Burton Hideaway 153. I’m a beginner/intermediate rider and I saw the threshold for boards with my height was between 147 and 154 or something.. but if it’s about weight maybe I should be getting something shorter? This year i’m more concerned about perfecting my riding, carving and switch; i’ll look to progress onto the park next year.
What do you recommend?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Sam
Your weight is a concern for that length of board but that plays a lot into the stiffness of the board and your ability to flex it into a carve, being secondhand there’s a good chance the board has lost some of that stiffness over time. You may also find that processing your riding takes more effort with a bigger board and late in the afternoon you get lazy and then the board feels big but with strong legs on a powder day you can power through your turns. My thoughts are to try it out, get on snow, get a lesson if possible and enjoy the board if you decide it’s not for you then demo and rent and find something that is but you will have also learned about boards and how you ride.
Thanks

Hello
Am brand new to snowboarding always anted to get in to it but never knew where to start maybe you can help me I’m 6’3 and 18.5 stone what do you recommend and I’m a size 12 in shoe ?!.. any help would be greatly appreciated
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Graham
With you sive start looking around the mid 160’s for board length with a size 12 boot you will possibly want a wide board so talk to your local shop to get setup with something that works for you. When starting renting different boards can help for you to understand what you need.
Thanks

Hello,
I started boarding last year, and I’m looking to buy a board. I’m 5ft 1in (shoe size 10, not sure if this matters). However, I noticed that their is a weight column. Currently I hover around 170-180lbs.
I’m still unsure what board height I should look for
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Edward
Yes being heavier does make a larger better for some riders so look around the high end of the 5’1″ range we are showing here
Thanks
Bethany says
My son is 11. About 4’9” and 80 lbs. and just started snowboarding. We got a used 142 cm -is that way too big and unmanageable? Would rather not buy something smaller for just a year or two… thank you for your help!
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Bethany
It depends on strength at that age, we see a lot of value in lessons or coaching, especially for young riders and they will often see if a board is too big, limiting progress or just making the riding less fun than we can with numbers.
Thanks
Ty says
Hey Riley!
I’m newer to snowboarding but wanna get a board. I’ve found a used burton process Flying V 159 wide board, except I’m not exactly sure if it’ll be a good fit, or if it’s to advanced of a board since I’m just starting, I’m 6 feet and about 160 pounds. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Ty
We can’t comment or specific boards as everyone rides different and uses the board differently but are you able to progress and enjoy the board? Lessons are also useful for newer riders to build up those basics.
Thanks
Wes says
Hi. I’m 6’1” and weigh about 173-181 pounds (weight ranges as I’m usually sitting around there any given time during the winter depending on how much I ride). Recently bought a Ride Machete at 155cm as that is what is the guy recommended for different reasons and I took his word for it as he is the “expert” and I’m beginning to think it might be a bit short for me. What do you think and is there anything you would suggest or am I still good? Thanks!
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Wes
We can’t comment on specific boards as there are just too many but depending on the reasons given and the way you ride it might be a good fit even tho it’s smaller than we recommend for your size. Are you falling more than previous boards, especially in powder would be a good indication you may want to go bigger but if you can negotiate tight terrain or spin faster in the park that’s a good reason to go shorter.
Thanks
Kevin says
I just started snowboarding I’m getting a board and deciding between 152cm and 155cm. I’m 5’10 and 140lbs.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Kevin
Just starting there are a lot more things to look at than just size of a board so demoing or renting different options, taking a lesson and talking with a coach may help make those decisions more than just a size.
Thanks

Hi Riley,
I’m looking to make an upgrade, until now I had a Salomon pulse 162w, but I feel it out of my confort zone, for ex. for turns, I feel it unconfortable and heavy. Now i’m looking for a shorted board, endeavor live 2019 157w, what do you think for my height and weight: 1.93(6’3) 88kg(194lbs), feet 45.5 EU.
I fit into their size chart in terms of weight…
2 seasons experience.
Level: Intermediar
Riley Bathurst says
Hey D.E.Marian
We can’t comment on specific boards, there are just too many but feeling out of your comfort zone is not a good thing, sometimes a few days will help and you will get through this but ride a board you enjoy not one that a chart suggests, maybe keep both, a bigger board for powder days and a smaller one for groomers if that feels best?
Thanks

About 5’10-5’11” and 240 lbs what size board would i need? Havent been boarding in about 15-20 years but i have plenty of experience
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Chris
Boards have changed dramatically in the last couple of decades so try and demo or rent a few boards to see what is new and you like but I would start looking around 162cm, with your weight look towards the stiffer boards.
Thanks
Deanna says
I am looking for boards for my 3 kids and they are all beginners. Hoping you can help me with sizing.
Here are their sizes:
5’9″ 169 lbs (female)
5’10” 141 lbs (male)
5’6″ 111 lbs (female)
Thanks in advance!
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Deanna
Gender is not the biggest concern of board size, strength, especially in growing kids can determine which boards to get so this often helps to work with a coach, instructor or someone instore to get the best experience. I would start for 5’9″ look around 157cm. 5’10” 155cm and 5’6″ 146cm.
Thanks

Hello,
My daughter is 5’5 and about 130 lbs. She is a beginner and I want to surprise her with a board. What size should I get?
Thank you.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Lois
Surprises are awesome but boards are also very personal so with her size, I would start around 146cm but if it makes sense starting with a demo or rental can help to find out if that one is the right board and also has a physical surpirise.
Thanks

I’m6’4 155lbs and looking to get a new board. I am a intermediate rider and an instructor. I do most powder and all mountain riding and am curious as to what size snowboard i would need because if my height to weight ratio.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Justus
We would suggest starting looking around the 162cm, Possibly with something stiffer for your weight.
Thanks
Cody says
6’2″ 300 lbs, Would a 165W work?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Cody
300lbs is above our usual recommendations so start with the 165 and see how that feels, try a demo or rent first as stiffness is probably more of a concern than length for you situation.
Thanks
Mel says
Hi! I was reading through and couldn’t find one that was exactly like me so I was wondering what size board would be best for someone 5’4.5 and ~110 pounds? Thanks!
Riley Bathurst says
Hi Mel
5’4″ and 110 fits to our chart, start looking for a board around 145cm but we always suggest if possible demo or rent first so you know the board you are looking at rides the way you want.
Thanks
Steph says
My 17 yr old son is 5’9, 120-25 lbs. (9-10 shoe) What size snowboard do you recommend for him?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Steph
We recommend somewhere about 151cm. Surprises are great but snowboards are very personal so we suggest demoing or renting before purchase especially if it’s for someone else.
Thanks
Jordan says
5’7” 230lbs
I own a 152 but I bought it 10 years ago when I was much lighter. Will that still work now?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Jordan
If you already have the board, go out and try to ride it, boards have also come a long way in ten years so if you can demo or rent a new board as a comparison you may be surprised
Thanks
David says
Hey I need help for being a first time rider and I’m looking for a board. I’m from Oregon. 5’8” 230lbs. Can I get some feed back on what I should be riding. Anything special I should look out for.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey David
Many if not most mountains will offer learn to ride programs including rentals and lessons packages where they will help you get set up and moving, an instructor teaching you to ride will also be a great help with buying a board as they will understand your level so we would suggest if possible start there with the biggest leg up. If that’s not possible start around the 160cm length board.
Thanks

Hi,
I’m between 5”11 and 6” and weigh 154lbs. When I last snowboarded i rode 154’s and 158’s but I was a lot smaller then as it was a few years ago. I’m wondering what board size I would need now as I’m looking for one for the 2022 season.
Thanks
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Owen
Try riding the 158 board, if it feels less stable or you are falling more than you were you may need to look at something longer but it’s a good place to start.
Thanks

Riley Bathurst says
Hey Cindy
We dont recommend any specific board there are just too many variables but with your size start looking for something around 152cm.
Thanks

hi i just got a 147 board i’m 5’6 / 5’7 and i think maybe 145-155 lbs, i’m not sure. also a size 8.5/9 boot in women’s. do you think that’s okay? i just got it all set up and am going this weekend
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Sofia
If you already have it ready to go then trying it is the best option, 147cm is on the smaller side of what we would recommend for your size but theres a lot more than just a number so hopefully it rides well but if you are struggling with it then maybe its a good idea to look for something else.
Thanks

I am looking at a few different boards right now and trying to pick a size. I’m 5’4″ and weigh 125lb, shoe size is 7.5 in mens. I have two right now, one is a 148cm hybrid rocker and the other is 150cm camber. Some of the charts I’ve looked at say I could do a 152cm and am curious if you feel like that would be too long / heavy for my height and weight. I’ve had my eye on a few that size but am not sure that is the right move.

5’8-5’9 and around 138lb
Purchased a 156, however I’m new so I likely can’t tell if it feels right or now. Will that board size be fine or is it too long?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Nathan
Seeing as you already have the board the next step we would recommend it taking a lesson, a good instructor will have far more insight into how you are riding the board and if it suits you than we can from a couple of numbers.
Thanks

Hello, my name is Rebekah and I’m looking to buy a new snowboard. I’m 12 years old, my height is 5’0 and I weigh about 85 lbs. I’m kind of new to snowboarding. What is the best snowboarding height for me? I also enjoy the park a little but I’m not a park rat. I would mainly enjoy medium speeds and a few tricks.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Rebekah
We would recommend starting your search around 138cm. At 12 I am going to presume you are growing pretty quick so talking with your parents about how long you will have this board might mean you look for something longer to grow into if you will also be riding it next winter. Some stores offer trade ins and trade ups so you always have something your size, this might also be good to look into.
Thanks

Hi ! I am a female, approximately 5.5.5” – 5.6 ” , weighing in around 130 – 133 lbs , size 7.5. I am a beginner and would like to purchase a new board. I am looking at a board that is 153 cm. Do you believe that is too big? What size would you recommend?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Zhenni
It’s on the higher side of what we recommend is there any reason you are looking for that length?
Thanks

Hey! I used to be an avid boarder and still have my board but I have had kids and gained many lbs. and moved away from the mountains 😕 I am 5 foot 6 and 250 lbs. I know my old 150 is too small. I want to get back on the hill with kiddos and miss the wind on my face. Any suggestions on size?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Brandi
Feel free to try the 150 if you still have it but with weight it might be more of a board stiffness rather than length off you liked your old board.
Thanks

This is an awesome post and thread! I am an intermediate (used to be headed toward advanced but my chops are rusty after years of momming). I’ve been off the slopes for a long time, but I headed out this season and picked back up pretty confidently. I ride an old 151 Burton Motion- traditional camber profile. Super stiff but super fast. Very dated and feels kind of on the short side for me. I am 5’6′ 160 lbs give or take. I am wondering what you recommend looking at size wise and for profiles rocker/camber. I want an all mountain board- that might be a little more forgiving on the East Coast terrain.
I also could use advice for my 7 year old son who is 4’4′ and 85lbs. Seems the kids sizing is harder to figure out. I got him a used 115 but I don’t know if that really takes the weight into consideration. The person who did the “fitting” rushed us out the door so I am not confident about her recommendation. Any help would be awesome sauce!
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Liz
Glad to hear you are back out there,
the 151 being stiff might ride longer than a softer board so try and demo or rent a few options, go back to what you have and just test things out, new board technologies are great but everyone like different things, even if I’m still very partial to that traditional camber.
For your son it’s really hard depending on strength and growing rates, sorry you didn’t have a good experience inshore but maybe look for another shop that looks after you and helps fitting a good board to his physique

Hello, 5”8 and 215 pounds. Bought Gnu snowboard size 156 cm. Seems long for boards I’ve rented in past. Almost past my ear in height. Should I try it or get smaller size? Thanks
Chris says
Also 10 shoe size
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Chris
156cm is fine for our chart but are you enjoying the way it rides if you already have it?
If it feels long are you able to maneuver it easily?
Thanks
Chris says
I haven’t tried it yet, worried it might be too long but I guess only one way to find out?…
Riley Bathurst says
We push for research but also demoing or renting a board if possible before purchase as there’s far more than just length to consider for a board and the only way to know is to spend time on a board

Hi everyone! I’m 181 cm tall ( 5.11) and 91 kgs (200 lbs) in weight. Also I wear 44 boots size (28 mondo / 11 US). What length do you think will suit me best? I’m doing all mountain and I’m a beginner-middle experienced. Right now I have a huge discount on 2 snowboards – 160 cm and 156 cm. Between this 2 boards? Thank you a lot!
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Edward
We would suggest the 160cm of those two based on your height / weight, always good to try and demo or rent a board before purchase as a cheap board you don’t like is a worse use of money that one that costs more but is better for you.
Thanks

Hi! My daughter is 5’7 and weighs about 95 on. She’s a beginner and has never snowboarded before. What size snowboard would be good?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Anna
Especially for a first timer many mountains will offer a program with lessons and board rentals where they will help you get sorted and also the chance to change if a board isn’t riding right or the instructor can see something in equipment changes that will help on the first days so that’s what we suggest.

Getting back into snowboard. I had a 158cm board back in 2003. I am an intermediate. I like ride all mountain, groomers, small/medium jumps and occasional powder days. Should I get a new 158/159cm or a 156/157cm? Thanks in advanced.
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Ben
Boards have changed a lot since 2003, if at all possible try and demo or rent a few of the newer shapes and technologies to see that rides the way you like as there are way more options now.
Thanks

Hi! I’m 6 foot and 1,6 inches or 187 cm. I weigh about 187 lbs or 85 kg. I own a all-mountain board that is 165w and I’m looking for a new board to buy that I could take out on the slopes and in the snowpark. Currently I’m looking at the Capita 2021 D.O.A. but I only found a really good deal on the 158 size. Will it be good for me or too small?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Daniels
The difference between 165 and 158 is huge, we can’t comment on specific boards but changing that much might throw out your riding in some fundamental ways, a smaller gap might be easier to deal with but some people can adapt just fine with large quiver.
Thanks

Hi im 6’1” and weight 132 im looking for a nice board to fit me and cant seem to find it on the chart what size board i should ride
Riley Bathurst says
Hey Jake
Sorry we can only fit the chart to the median so that doesn’t fit everyone, We suggest finding a local store you trust and working with them including looking at renting or demoing a few boards to find something that works best for you, we generally suggest this anyway as this chart is a great place to start but everyone likes different boards.
Thanks

Hey Riley, I’ve been looking to buy my first new snowboard this year but not 100% sure what size I should go with. I tend to stay out of the park and find myself on groomers and in the trees for the most part. I’m 5’10” and 160 – 165 lbs. I’ve been looking at the Salomon assassin in the 159 cm size, but do you think that might be a little on the longer side for my size?
Riley Bathurst says
Hey James
We can’t comment on specific boards as there are too many and too many variables, are you able to demo or rent that board the next time you ride? Riding a board is the always the best way to know if a board really does suit you.
Thanks
